Surreal Animal
Mixed Media In this project students will design an animal that is less than ordinary. Students will create a surreal, contemporary characteristic animal sculpture that evokes an emotion or tells a story. Students will learn the process of mixed medium by adding multiple different mediums to their ceramic sculpture. Abstract Paper Sculpture
For your first project in 3-D art you will be altering many of the same object to create something different. You will be using as many or as little of regular 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper ( formally known as typing paper) to create one 3-D object. You will cut, fold, crumple, twist, attach, suspend, squish, and alter the paper in any way you can, then attach them together using hot glue / Elmer's glue to create a recognizable or abstract sculpture. Note: If having trouble with an idea of what to create try this: make a small abstract form using 1-3 pieces of paper. Make this form over and over again in repetition until you have a collection of many. Now build a sculpture out of the collection of repeated forms. Questions:

Bent Objects
(Inspired by Terry Border ) What happens when a yo-yo- gets to the end of its rope? What does an egg think when it meets a roasted chicken? What happens when a candle is burned at both ends? For this project students will focus on the small items that we overlook in our daily lives, paperclips, peanuts, pill bottles, playing cards, etc. Personifying these things allows the viewer to imagine entire worlds of twisted fun Objective: Students are to use inanimate objects and create a small scene depicting a simple thought or phrase. Students use wire to create arms and legs for the object to characterize it then create the rest of the setting animate the story. |

Repetitive Obtainium Sculpture
Note: Obtainium is not a word - but it means what you can obtain! In this project you will create with what junk you cna get your hands on; junk in repetitive quantities. Some artist create with what is given to them, or what they find. These artist let the medium they are given help decide what the sculpture is going to be. Sometimes the medium relates to the finished sculpture, other times the medium has nothing to do with the end product. For this Sculpture you will use obtainium in repetitive quantities to create a sculpture of your choice. Questions
