Ceramics
Ceramics is an introduction to working with the mediums of different clay bodies, glazes, firing techniques, and other mixed mediums combined with clay to create different 3-D ceramic works of art. Along with learning a wide variety of clay working techniques students will be presented with contemporary, multicultural, and historic types of ceramic art and lessons. Students will learn the basic techniques to throwing pottery on the wheel and have the opportunity to make a body of work via the wheel or a set of dishes for their family's kitchen. Students will learn to properly load and fire a kiln. Students will also have the chance to visit Alvin Community College's ceramic studio to see the processes of gas fired and Raku fired ceramics.
