Mix Clay - Day 2
Day 2 you will learn the exciting process of making clay and mixing it, everyone in the class through out the year will have to mix clay for the class and for the other art classes at MHS to use. You will also be informed on the properties of clay, where it comes from, the different types, how the earth makes it, and who originally discovered this fantastic art medium.
Questions:
1. If there is dried up clay in the clay mixer prior to mixing what do you do?
2. What is the largest amount of slurry you can add to the clay mixer?
3. How much dry powder clay do you add to the slurry?
4. How long do you mix the clay for?
5. Does the clay mixer need to be 10i0% clean on the inside when finished mixing?
6. Does the clay mixer area need to be 90% clean on the outside when finished making clay?
7. Do you tie the plastic bag that the clay goes in?
8. How much scrap clay do you add to your mixture of clay?
9. Do exact measurements really matter when mixing clay?
10. Where do you put the clay when you have finished bagging it up?

Ceramic Tripod Cup
For this assignment students will learn a simple ceramic craft of creating a tripod legged cup, students will be allowed to make as many cups as they would like. Students will learn how to properly roll out a slab, apply texture, pinch the bottom to create legs, and build and attach a handle. Students will also learn the process of firing the cup to bisque ware, and glaze techniques. Questions: 1. What 3-D sculptural accessories / additions / features / texture will I add to my cup ? 2. How will I incorporate the idea of " tripod " into the theme of my cup? 3. How will I incorporate the finishing glaze design into the tripod cup theme? For this assignment students will create a multiple piece ceramic skeleton. This ornamental artwork will be assembled with wire, painted with acrylic and given a persona depending on creativity. Questions:

Working on the potters wheel students will learn more than making Ceramic Where (bowls, cups, plates, teapots, vases, etc.) they will learn patience, and the wisdom and skill of a timeless age old craft. Working on the wheel is a hands on only learned skill Practice is imperative to mastering the craft. Videos are provided below for examples of how to master this fantastic craft! Enjoy!
